BMW Museum
LED illumination for new BMW museum

LEXEDIS and LEDON realise an innovative LED illumination of a glass façade covering 3000m² for the BMW Museum.

to Overview

Within the scope of a major order of more than EUR 1.5 mill for Zumtobel, a brand of the Austrian Zumtobel Group to supply the lighting solution for the BMW Museum in Munich, LEXEDIS and LEDON will realise the LED illumination of a glass façade, that is part of the project and accounts for more than 50% of the total amount. LEDON and LEXEDIS make impressive, flexible use of LED sections with advanced white light quality, optimum uniformity and appropriate colour temperature, along with a versatile light control concept.

As part of the overall renovation of the BMW Group Headquarters, the BMW Museum is also undergoing a remodelling. The "Museum Bowl" designed in 1973 is to be extended on three levels by the addition of an adjacent pavilion. The resultant blend of open and closed exhibition spaces in conjunction with a system of ramps will increase the overall display area at the museum from 1,000m² to 5,000m². A major component within the pavilion will be the 3,000m² glass façade. The aim is to generate harmonious light and uniform illumination of the glass surface. The colour temperature of the LEDs is ideally modulated to ensure that the light colour of the media façade is exactly replicated throughout.

LEXEDIS will supply nanoXED light points. By extremely low chromatic spreading due to manufacturing tolerances, this High Efficiency Digital Light source is able to render colour temperatures precisely as required by the client so that the lighting effect achieved by the illuminated glass façade corresponds to the building's media concept.

Moreover, when it comes to ease-of-use and being maintenance free, nanoXED is impressive due to its high energy efficiency and its compact dimensions of 2.5 x 2.5 x 0.6mm.
